Awwww Nuts!

Oh Bloggy friends, I have some disappointing news this morning. I totally let myself down and broke my no sugar challenge, after like 4 measly days!  Yesterday I was sitting in the living room with Harper minding my own business when some cheap Wal Mart caramel corn attacked me and made its way down my throat.  My grandma got us one of those tins of popcorn for Xmas that has the 3 flavors.  We’ve been using it for a drum for Harper and while I was mindlessly watching Tabatha’s Salon Takeover (such a great show!!) I found myself shoveling it in my mouth. Ugh, and of course b/c I broke my rules I found myself knee deep in chocolate after dinner.  Ah well, dusting the dirt off my butt and reclaiming my NO SUGAR IN JAN goal today.  Luckily its a long month.  My cat Sara is deeply embarrassed that I broke so soon:

See she survived her bath.

I started my day off with vomit in a glass, um I mean this:

Green Monster Trial #5 was a big ol yick. I had to make myself drink it.  I am lucky that I really liked the first packet of mix in I tried or I might have abandoned this journey to find the best Green Monster mix in.

Today the snow has finally stopped falling and Harper and I are heading to the gym for a 10:30 BeamFit class.  Very exciting news for you my fine readers, I talked to David, the creator or BeamFit and he is giving me a Beam for a giveaway in Feb!  So one of you can have your very own BeamFit beam to work out on at home, they retail for $150!  Exciting stuff.

Check back after lunch for my Somethin’ Pretty for the week, it contains a giveaway for a truly beautiful one of a kind headband.  Stay warm!

Dimeslots and Leftovers

We had a ton of pork left over from dinner yesterday. Damn you Costco and your giant portions of inexpensive, quality meat!  So, Gary took the helm and made us a taco bar for dinner.  We used up the leftover pork sautéed with onions and these goodies:

I hadn’t had this salsa before. I am a huge salsa fan and enjoy buying different kinds. It was spicy and not really that exciting. I didn’t think it tasted like tequila or lime.  However these kettle chips are the bombdiggity. I’ve written about them before, they are super salty and beany.  Good yums.  I took a picture of my finished taco, it was really pretty!  My camera ate it somehow.

I know I shouldn’t post a picture of my kids dimeslot, but come on how funny is this pic.

I went out into the sub artic temperatures and ran around the yard with the dogs after dinner.  I made it back inside without frostbite or upchucking my dinner from the frolicking.  I am bummed that I didn’t go out for a walk today, the snow is really deep. It would have been a good workout.

Being that it’s a new year, my gym has come out with a new schedule!  I am so pumped, I love when they move the classes around.  I have spent way too much time studying the schedule and here is what I think I am going to do.

Sunday: 9am power yoga, PM run with Fonzie 4-6
Monday: Weights on my own at gym,  PM run with Fonzie 4-6 miles
Tuesday: 10:00 Absolutely abs and then 4-6 mile speed work on dreadmill
Wednesday: 10:30 Beamfit (awesome pilates/yoga class on balance beam) and if I can get Harper to bed early 7:30pm power yoga
Thursday:  6 -8 mile Run,  Yoga at home
Friday: 9:15 Urban Iron
Saturday: Long run 8-13 miles

Now this is a perfect world schedule. I will obviously not always get these workouts in. Running is the main focus and I need to get 4-5 runs in a week, Yoga is next and I need to do it twice, then the Friday weights b/c I need to make sure I lift at least once.  How about you lovely readers?  What is your most important workout each week, which one do you put before all others?

BeamFit Monday & Food Should Taste Good review

Today started off the same way most days in the winter do, with oatmeal.  I messed up a bit this morning and put too much milk in, so that’s why they look so watery, but that’s good sometimes. Today’s concoction was 3/4 cup milk, mixed berries, maple syrup and the rest of my Trader Joes triple ginger cookies.  Yum!

You have to love Costco’s, look at this motha honking huge bag of triple berries!

In our household it’s only real maple syrup.  Before I moved to Cleveland I had no idea that people really used maple syrup, I was a Mrs. Butterworth girl, lol.  And not only does everyone use real maple syrup in Cleveland, it’s NE OH syrup only and this stuff is like $40 a bottle!  I thought G was kidding when he told me how much he paid.  But you know what? It’s worth every dime.
Harper is in the back of the pic contemplating why it takes so long to get fed in our house, why is mom always taking pictures!  She got her own mini bowl of oatmeal this morning. This was actually her first oatmeal, other than a few bites of mine here and there.  Since I usually have PB in mine, I don’t give it to her often b/c babies aren’t supposed to have PB.  Today we were PB free in the oats so a bowl for her was in order.  No syrup or cookies in hers either, maybe that’s why she didn’t really like it!  I gave it to her later at lunch though and she scarfed it right up.  Just wasn’t interested in breakfast today I guess.

After breakfast we headed to the gym.  Daycare for Harper and Beamfit for me. Unfortunately the normal Beamfit teacher was on vacation and the sub didn’t really know how to teach Beamfit, so we just did pilates. That was fine though, it was a good workout.  I am probably being hyper sensitive but there is a newer gal in the playroom and she drives me crazy b/c every time I pick up Harper she complains about how Harper wanted to be held and wasn’t happy in the swing, wasn’t happy in the jumper after a few mins, then didn’t really want her puffs, etc. I just feel like telling her – “Um, she’s an 8 month old, what do you expect, you have to move them around a bunch, they get bored easily!”.  Ugh.  I just feel like I pay them, so they should just suck it up and deal with her for the hour and not complain to me about it. It’s not like she cries the whole time b/c they come and get you if your kid cries for too long.  Whatev.

After we came back home and Harper got a nap, we headed to the grocery.  I love going grocery shopping, its always funny to me when people say they hate it.  I looked around for something new to try so I could blog about it!  I came across the “Food Should Taste Good” chips.  SCORE they were on sale!  I have wanted to try these before, but they are expensive at $4ish a bag and the bags are small.  Today they were on sale for $3, so I scooped up the Olive ones:

I wasn’t impressed.  They were kind of funky tasting to me, but do have an olivey after taste. I did like the size, crispness, non oilyness (making up words) and saltiness of them though. I might try a different flavor, but these olive ones were not for me.  Honestly ,I am more of a green olive girl as opposed to Kalamata olives, so if you like black olives, you might love these.

I am so sleepy, Mushi got up needing to poop in the middle of the night and I couldn’t fall back asleep.  I swear the 2 dogs are way more work than Harper.  However, I plan to go run with Fonzie at least 3-4 miles later, it’s wet and slick out there, so it will be slowgoin’, but I am trying to get some miles in the bank since I won’t be able to really do a long run this week b/c we are driving to KY on Sat and have Xmas there Sun morning.  Hope you are all having a wonderful Monday.

Here’s a question for you today, what is your favorite chip?

Working Out & Self Worth

Harper is starting to feel better.  Thank goodness. She didn’t wake up with a face full of boogers to chip off today.  Ah the joys of motherhood.  I still feel cruddy.  My throat is really sore and I ache something awful.  Here’s a question for you Bloggy friends, do you still work out when you are sick?  I used to take a day off and then get back to it. Now that I have Harper it’s not so easy.  I can’t take her to the gym when she is sick at all and more often than not that equals me blowing off a workout; even though I have my own bike trainer and plenty of DVDs.  I wish that wasn’t the case, but it is. I am lucky right now b/c I am breastfeeding so even if I am not working out, I still get to burn calories.  This morning I was finally at my goal weight 125.  I haven’t seen 125 in years and years. I know BF is a huge contributor to it and I fear that once I am done I am going to be in trouble.  I will have to eat a lot less, of course I will be back at work soon there after so that will make it easier.

So anyway I haven’t had a good workout aside from 1 run since last Wed (I’ve done yoga twice too). Ugh.  It’s amazing how bad I feel mentally, physically when I don’t work out.  It even puts me in a bad mood and makes me feel bad about myself. I know logically I am not going to lose fitness or gain a ton of weight if I take a week off. I know that I will probably be even better off from the rest. But I have been sick so often this winter that it is really messing with me.  In a perfect world, here is what my workouts week would look like:

Sunday:  Run 4-6 miles & 75 min power yoga class

Monday: 60 min Beamfit class (pilatesish)

Tuesday:  Run 6-8 miles

Wednesday: 60 min weight lifting class

Thursday: Run 4-6 miles

Friday: Rest or 60 min weight lifting class

Saturday:  8-13 mile run

I’m averaging around 20-25 miles a week, but in the new year I want to get the mileage up a bit. I haven’t been biking or swimming at all, not since before I was pregnant.  I honestly don’t know where I would fit it in, but I am contemplating that.  However I know it would require more 2 a day workouts and realistically with Harper I don’t know that its possible.   The problem with swimming is that it’s not really something you can do only once a week, you really need to do it 2-3 times a week to improve. I am a horrible swimmer, so if I am going to go back to swimming I have to commit to working on it.  Not sure if I can focus on my running and swim….I guess I could drop the weights classes and swim and rely on the yoga and swimming to keep my arms toned???  I can bike in my basement after Harper goes to sleep, but I just never get around to it.  Sigh.

I do have big workout plans for the new year. I love new year, clean slates, a new calendar. I am the queen of lists and calendars.  I know I want to run 1000 miles in 2010.  I have never really kept track of my runs, but I plan to put them into a spreadsheet and track my times.  I want to focus on getting faster and I may do a marathon in May.  I also want to do yoga at least twice a week. I can’t wait until the gym puts out the new year schedule.  Exciting stuff.

Have you tried Beamfit?

Recently at my gym (urban active) they started a new class – Beamfit. I was very interested, but it took me a few months to actually get myself into the class. I am bummed I waited so long b/c it rocks!  As you can see in the image, you stand on this horizontal weighted beam and then you do excercises while you balance on it.  I must say that I am not the worlds most coordinated person so it definately takes some work for me to stay upright on the beam. The teacher then runs you through some excercises while you are standing or lying on the beam.  I am in love with this class and plan to take it every week.  My favorite part is when the teacher makes us lay on our sides and balance on our hip on the beam, then we stick our legs out at a 30 degree angle and run through some pilates moves like eggbeaters and drawing circles with your leg.  Ouch!   I really think taking this class, along with power yoga on Sunday will compliment my goal to get faster.  My quads and glutes are smoked the next day.
