Dewey’s Pizza: Get in ma bellaaaay

If you are lucky enough to live in Cincinnati, Cleveland or St. Louis than you are lucky enough to have a Dewey’s Pizza in your neighborhood. I fell in love with Dewey’s when I was attending Xavier University in Cincinnati. Their first location was there, only a few blocks from where I lived.  It is the only pizza I eat nowadays.  The crust is what does it, it is crisp and crunchy with the perfect amount of garlic and dough, not greasy it all.  They have a ton of delectable toppings to choose from.

Tonight we trekked the mile over to Lee Road from our house to indulge. Now that we have a baby and I don’t work, our meals out are few and far in between. This is probably the 6th time we’ve been to a restaurant since Harper was born!  So yeah I was jazzed and after my long run this morning I was starving.  One of the best things about Dewey’s are their salads with homemade dressings. We started our meal with the Harvest salad, mixed greens with bacon, figs, goat cheese balsamic vinaigrette.  Yum. It was so good I forgot to take a picture, so here look at this.

well maybe this photo makes more sense, our salad looked more like this:

Then we had a pizza with pineapple and Canadian bacon on it.  I added on the green olives.  Superb.  Yummy night out.

What about you Bloggy Friends, how often do you go out to eat?

McCormick & Schmick’s and a Hair cut!

Who got a super cute haircut at Cut Hair Studio today?  It’s me, it’s me!  I love Cut. I’ve been getting my hair cut there for 5 years now.  Since Laura, the owner, opened up with one chair across the street from her current location on Lee Road in the heart of Cleveland Heights.  She now has 5 chairs and 4 other stylist.  I love going to Cut.  Laura, the gal that owns it is just the Bees Knees and if I am going to give anyone my money, I feel good about giving it to her.  Seriously, let her cut your hair and when you leave you will want her to be your best friend.  Plus, I love to support local businesses.  Check em out if you are in the area.  Karen cut my hair tonight, but unfortunately she is moving on to the next chapter of her life (good luck!), but the team left Laura, Sean Paul, Maria and Jennifer all do fabulous work.  Voila:

Nothing like a new haircut to leave you feeling good.  Now that I’m a big time blogger (insert sarcasm here) I need to find my angle. Which way to take a pic to not make my beak look so big!   I actually got dressed today as well, I mean dressed aside from sweat pants and a t shirt, I don’t run around naked (often, lucky neighbors).  I had a cute dress over jeans.  Love that look.  Too bad I didn’t bother to take a full length pic.

After the cut, we met G’s mom for dinner at McCormick & Schmick’s.  This is a high end chain seafood restaurant.  It’s not my favorite. I like Mitchell’s Fish Market better.  We had a pretty good meal though.  I got a twice baked lobster potato and prosciutto wrapped asparagus.  My potato was nothing to write home about. You wouldn’t have know it had lobster in it except that it had lobster in the name. The asparagus was perfect though. The prosciutto was wonderfully salty and crispy and the asparagus was perfectly cooked and it was topped with a spicy mustard that paired well. Gary and his mom both got the almond crusted mahi mahi and that dish was really good, not greasy at all. We got dessert too and I forgot to take a picture!  The horror!  I still have a lot to learn about food blogging and how to take a pretty picture. The MIL and I shared a little sampler platter of chocolate chip cannoli, creme brulee and chocolate cake and Gary got a complimentary piece of chocolate cake. I wasn’t impressed by any of the desserts, but they were pretty to look at.

And seriously how stinking cute is Harper’s winter coat/hat combo that I picked up at TJ Maxx for $17! I was worried she would melt down at dinner, but she had a good time, thanks to a late nap. She was dancing and giggling. We’ve been having dance parties to Abba around our house lately.  I want her to love music as much as me.  I am a huge music fan.  I’ve been to a ton of concerts, but not nearly as many lately.  Although I did see Fleetwood Mac when I was 8 months pregnant!  When I was in college I saw Phish a lot, like 50 times.  She loveeesss “Take a Chance on Me”, or maybe that’s me…but I defy you to listen to that song and not have fun.  Every time I hear it I think about that time on the Office where Andy serenaded Angela to that song with the guys from his acapella group (the acafellas!) on the phone.  Who loves the Office?  Brilliant show.

Birthday Sunday

Sunday was Gary’s birthday.  He started the day off by sleeping in.  While he was sleeping I couldn’t go to power yoga at the gym b/c Harper is sick and I can’t take her to the daycare. So, thanks to my AT&T Uverse cable I was able to do yoga at home.  Anyone else have this cable?  It’s the best. It took me a few months to find out, but if you go to Video on Demand (where you order pay per view) they have Free on Demand, which has excercise tv and over 100 excercise DVDs you can play for free!

He got up around 11, then we put up our Xmas tree. I have thought long and hard about holiday traditions. I used to love Xmas as a kid, but not so much anymore. I want Harper to love it like I did.  So, I want to come up with some traditions we carry on every year.  Two things stick out to me from my childhood.  #1 is that my Dad would let us open a gift on Xmas eve.  That was the best. You just never knew what you were going to get, what a gamble, you could end up with socks or a nintendo game!  #2 is stockings. My mom always went overboard in the stocking dept.  Our stockings were literally 3 feet tall.  We always opened out stockings first and mom put such great things in there, from CDs and lip gloss to candy and makeup.  You never knew what you would find.  What is your favorite holiday tradition?  One thing I came up with that I definitely want to do is get Harper a new ornament every year and then when she is 18 give them to her.  I took her to Target and just showed her ornaments until she had a good reaction to one, here is what we ended up with.  Voila:

Then we tortured our dogs a bit:

After that we got cleaned up and headed to Mitchell’s Fish Market. Mitchell’s is a fabulously fresh delicious restaurant.  It is a small chain, I think there are like 5 locations, I know they have another one in Cincinnati.  We got here on birthdays and our anniversary specifically for the banana caramel bread pudding. It can be a pricey place to eat, so we have been known to eat dinner at home and then go sit at the bar and share this slice of mouth heaven.  We got all set up and got Harper squared away:

Ignore the snot, her nose is like a faucet right now, I can’t keep up with it.  Gary ordered one of the fish of the day, the Steelhead. He had never had it before, nor had I. It was good, but pretty much just like Salmon and a little fishy for my taste. It came with delicious garlic mash potatoes.  I ordered a cup of clam chowder and the vegetable plate which has balsamic grilled veggies (squash, eggplant, mushrooms, asparagus) with sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese and some sticky rice. Mine was great. I shared my rice with Harper and she was really into that.  So, then it came time to order dessert and the horror!  The HORROR!  They no longer have our beloved bread pudding, gone, off the menu, never coming back. I shed a little tear and then we ordered a chocolate mousse cake. It was very good, but no bread pudding.  I have tried to make bread pudding before, but have never been successful, probably b/c I just can’t bring myself to cook with a ton of lard and butter.  For his birthday I gave Gary a coffee (well tea for him) mug with Harper’s picture on it and a Yoga for Golfers DVD. Harper gave Gary her first official crawling!

After Harper went to bed we watched a movie (Horsemen, not so good), well I messed around on ebay trying to win a Haiku bag. I will get one!!!!  I had 2 glasses of my fav wine – Blackstone Merlot and feel like crud today. I am just not cut out for drinking anymore.
